Shiva the yogi as he has been represented in Bengal , sitting against the backdrop of a typical Bengali ‘aat-chaalaa’ temple . Three snakes flank his two sides and top of the head respectively , representing the Ida , Pingala and Sushumnaa channels of Kundalini yoga . His jata is tied in a topknot and his throat is blue from the poison ‘halaahal’ . Two Dhatura flowers are stuck above his heard and a garland of skulls encircle his neck symbolizing his stature as the lord of time – Mahakaal . Last but not the least , humble Vrisha , the bull sits beneath .
