A little bit about us
Karu is a design atelier rooted in Indian heritage and refined through artistic mastery. Specialising in sculpture, architectural stonework, and sacred art, the studio reinterprets timeless traditions for contemporary settings. From intricate hand-carved miniatures to large-scale installations, Karu’s work exists at the intersection of the spiritual and the sculptural, offering forms that are both grounded in ritual and elevated by design.
Each piece is crafted through a meticulous process of in-depth research, artistic intent, and technical precision. Whether it is a deity figure, a carved panel, or a piece of architectural ornamentation, the work is shaped by a profound respect for India’s artistic legacy. Karu draws from the visual language of classical temples, sacred geometry, and vernacular motifs—working closely with artisans who bring centuries-old techniques to life with each chisel mark.
At the heart of the studio is a rare union between scholarship and craftsmanship. The approach is both academic and intuitive—balancing historical accuracy with contemporary relevance. Karu’s team comprises master craftsmen whose families have practised the sculptural arts for generations, supported by designers and researchers committed to preserving and evolving the canon of Indian stonework. The studio’s offerings span sculptural statuary, architectural features, religious artefacts, bespoke home accessories, fine artworks, and site-specific commissions. These works find their place in temples, heritage properties, modern residences, cultural institutions, and private collections across India and internationally.
Karu’s practice has been recognised for its contribution to heritage preservation and cultural innovation. The studio has been featured at prominent design and craft forums, earning respect for its ability to bridge devotion and design, tradition and modernity. Through every creation, Karu offers more than form—it provides continuity, reverence, and a living connection to India’s rich sculptural history.
